For the auctioneer Patrick Deburaux, "there is a real passion around the vinyl record"

Patrick Deburaux is an auctioneer at Art Richelieu. A music specialist, he regularly organizes vinyl sales. For him, if "at the beginning, it started as a fashion trend", there is now "a real passion", "a real market" and even "a backdrop" around vinyl.

"We're talking about  a material object here", explains Patrick Deburaux, "something that we handle with pleasure, a cover, a record that we will listen to in a totally different way". If digital music sales prevail today, physical media has regained its place.

Who are the buyers of vinyl records? "Collectors, people who are forty, fifty, sixty years old who are eager to to find discs from their youth, others who are searching for a certain piece that does not exist in digital format..."

"Vinyl is not just music"

The sounds of a Citroën 2CV car roaring, a soundtrack sample, some punk song, a French chanson tune... David Skinazy, a record store owner and a music expert, was commissioned by the auction house Art Richelieu to estimate part of Radio France's record heritage. Locked in a secret warehouse, he and his colleague went over some of the two hundred thousand 7" of the house, to organize them in comprehensive lots that can fulfill the seller's expectations, delight collectors and attract neophytes. The sale took place on September 23.

3,500 of our vinyl records sold at auction: "it is exceptional to be able to have access to the Europe 1 fund"

Lovers of 7" singles and LPs could compete for some 3500 pieces from our collection. Beautiful pieces that have seduced music and vinyl enthusiasts ... but also the Europe 1 audience.

More than 3500 vinyl records from the Europe 1 collection were sold at an auction held Sunday afternoon at the famous Drouot hotel in Paris.

"It's a funny story. I started to love jazz thanks to two gentlemen, who hosted a jazz show : they were Frank Ténot and Daniel Filipacchi, and the show was called 'For those who like jazz'. So for me, it's like a double or triple attachment to this music", recalls Didier Pennequin, who leaves the auction with a set of 14 jazz vinyl records.

Time Out Paris Interview Music Auction

This weekend, sale of 25 000 vinyl records from the Europe 1 collection at low prices!

Almost three years after the sale of 8000 vinyl records from the Radio France discotheque, Europe 1 is preparing to offload some LPs. To take part in this wax trafficking, you should come over the town hall of the 15th arrondissement, this Saturday June 8th.

In this sale organized by Art Richelieu, more than 25 000 vinyls coming straight out of the Europe 1 collection - of all styles and formats - will be sold. For once, Europe 1 has managed to beat its public competitor in terms of figures. If no catalog is available, the visual of the sale reveals records by James Brown, Gene Vincent, Can, Billy Paul or the soundtrack of the film 'Serpico' by Sidney Lumet. Nothing says these discs can be found in the record cases but it gives an idea of the eclecticism of the sale.
